The Availability of Urban Planning Standards in Urban Public Transport Centers and Stations Inside Cities in Saudi Arabia (An Empirical study)

The aim of this study is to examine the availability of urban planning standards in public transport centers and stations inside cities in Saudi Arabia. It seeks to identify the main palnning problems facing these centers, and tries to suggest some relevant ameliorating recommendations. Two questionnaires were designed: one set for the users of urban public transport, and the other for the providers of the public transport services. Both questionnaires were tested for reliability, and valiadity.
The results of this study show that the degree of availability of major planning standards in the centers is average in general. Location requirements standards of the public transport center or station ranked first in its unavbailability, followed by those of traffic movement and flow requirements, third by the general urban plan requirements; fourth by requirements for the cities' demographic and social features; fifth the requirements for the environmental impacts, and sixth the requirements for the public transport centers' economic feasibility. The study concluded that it could spot no differences or discrepancies in the views of passengers or transporters over the requirements of environmental impacts.
