Developing Women Leadership in Jordan

Auther : Ikhlas I. Altarawneh Muna Abu Darweesh

This study aims to present some critical training and development programs required for women leadership development. It aims also to explore the main challenges confronting women in their workplaces and to  identify what is needed to overcome these challenges. To achieve the study objectives, a survey questionnaire was used as a data collection method; it was distributed among 120 women from south of Jordan, who occupy high administrative positions in their organizations. When analyzing the data, two types of analysis were used: a statistical and a content analysis. The study found that social and organizational constraints were the obvious challenges confronting women's advancement in their work. It also was able to identify some requirements, which were needed for women's advancement such as: male support and commitment, cooperation with women, domestic role rotation, and equal promotion opportunities between males and females, as well as avoidance of sex discrimination. The study recommends many important training and development programs that can empower women and enhance their abilities to manage high administrative posts, these are: psychological empowerment programs, training programs for women, mixed training programs for men and women,  support and orientation training programs.
