Auther : Ahmad M. Al-Zaubi
This study aimed to test the correlation between happiness and self-concept among a sample of Damascus University students. It sought to find out whether factors such as gender, academic major (Science or Arts), and year (first or fourth year students) yielded any statistically significant differences in this connection. The sample of the study consisted of (450) students of both sexes, with (175) male and (275) female students. The researcher used a happiness scale which he had earlier developed, as well as a happiness scale developed by Barakat (2008). The validity and reliability of both tools were verified. Results revealed the presence of average levels of happiness correlation with self-concept among students. A positive level was found at level (0.01) between happiness and self-concept (r=0.539). The resluts also revealed significantl gender differences in favor of male students. Differences in academic major were also significanlty marked in favor of science students. But no significant differences were observed between the means of happiness and self-concept among first and fourth year students. The researcher interpreted results in the light of the collected data, existing theories, reviewed literature, and previous studies.
