Organizational Commitment and its Relation to Emotional Intelligence among Employees in the State of Kuwait

Objective: Although emotional intelligence (EI) was found to play a crucial role in work setting, no study has investigated the relationship between EI and organizational commitment in the Middle East. Thus, this research may be a basis for researchers in the organizational filed. Mthods: A sample of 185 employees (149 males and 30 females) voluntarily participated in the research during their work time, and their ages ranged from 23 to 45 years old (M = 37.39 years, SD = 8.01). The employees' arveage work experience in their organizations was 11.1 years (SD = 6.68). Results: The results suggested that two parts of El, namely "Self- Appraisal of Emotion and Emotion Regulation" were significantly associated with one part of organizational commitment, which is "Affective Commitment". However, no significant association was found with other parts of organizational commitment, such as "Normative and Continuance Commitment". Conclusion: Accordingly, these findings could be a basis for more useful aims such as increasing organizational commitment by stimulating emotional intelligence.
