Auther : Suad Ghith Noor Abuomeir
Objective: This Study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a Group Counseling program based on experiential approach in improving self-esteem and family climate among an equal sample of violated wives. Methods: A sample of (20) wives were chosen from the center of women's program at Al- Husain Camp in Amman city, with an average age of (30,5) years. They were randomly distributed into two groups: experimental and control, each one consisted of (10) wives. Two scales were administered, one of them was self-esteem scale, and the second was family climate scale. In addition, a group-counseling program based on the experiential approach/Satir model was developed, and applied through (16) sessions, two sessions weekly among the experimental group. Results: The results showed that there were statistical differences between the scores of experimental group and the control group on the measures of self-esteem and family climate in favor of experimental group in the post-test, which indicated the effectiveness of the group-counseling program. In addition, the results revealed the persistent effect of the program after one-month follow-up. Conclusion: Counseling programs based on experiential approach are effective in improving self-esteem and the family climate of violated women who live in an Arab culture which is differentiated from Western culture in which scientist Virginia Satir's approach was applied.
