Effect of the Lockdown on Mental Health among a Sample of Jordanian Population during the Corona Pandemic (COVID-19)

Objective: The present study aimed to examine the effect of the lockdown on mental health among a sample of Jordanian population during the Corona pandemic (COVID -19). Methodology: the study sample consisted of (800) persons, including (327) males and (473) females, selected from Jordan during the Corona pandemic lockdown. The General Health Scale, consisting of (26) items, was used in the study, and it was distributed on four dimensions (psycho-physical health, the effectiveness of social functions, and absence of severe depression, insomnia and anxiety); also, the validity and consistency of the constructional and factorial analysis were verified by the Cronbach Alpha method, confirming the appropriateness of the implementation tool. Results: The results of the current study revealed that the most psychological effects associated with the lockdown were feelings of insomnia and anxiety at (33.6%), followed by the effectiveness of social functions at (16%), followed by psycho-physical health at (12.9%), and finally severe depression at (8.9%). The results showed that the percentage of those who were not mentally healthy was (9%), and that there were significant differences in mental health in favor of the individuals with income higher than (1500) dinars, as well as differences in favor of ages older than (36) years, people of Jordanian nationality, and those who were not subjected to home quarantine. However, the results revealed that there were no differences according to (gender, place of residence, educational level, quarantine, and returning to work).
