Social Policy and Care of Aged People in the State of Kuwait

This study deals with the cause of aged people in the Kuwaiti society from a social development perspective. It is interested in studying the status of aged people in connection with their size in the population formula, the role they play, the main services rendered to them by the state, and the authorities entitled with offering these services. The study is also interested in the social, economic and political dimensions which go side by side with the increased number of aged people in the population formula. It puts forward some solutions, methods and suggests ways for taking care of aged people and activating their role in the development of society through an integrated national programme in which all the governmental and local bodies concerned with the causes of aged people participate. The study stresses the negative effects of the increasing number of aged people on the national savings and investments since the programmes and projects meant for confronting the problems of aged people affect other activities. The study recommends the necessity of concentrating on the need for integrated care aged people in their natural environment and among their family members and making full use of the potentials and capabilities of aged people in the development programmes. In addition to developing health and accomodation services for all aged categories. The state has to work for consolidating the role of local socieities, public utility societies and private sector in the field of caring for aged people in addition to increasing the awareness of the society towards the causes of the aged people, their problems and needs.
