Names are not only a matter of words but it is much more than that. People’s names can reflect many things as: religion, belief, socioeconomic status, culture, and level of civilization. On the other hand the family’s decision of naming might be affected by many external and internal factors. Twelve sociological and cultural factors have been discussed in this study. For example: Acculturation, Social environment, race, religion, family’s names inheritance, urbanization, family enforcement, communication, birth circumstances, and family beliefs and philosophy. Therefore this study aims to explain those factors associated with people’s names and naming in Saudi Society in comparison with other societies. Moreover, the study presents the diversity of naming patterns in Saudi society in the past and present in Bedouins, rural, and urban communities. It also traces the change that has occurred in the nature of naming in each community.
