of the Shuwaikh Industrial Area (2) - Kuwait
The study emphasizes how GIS can be applied in geographical studies, especially in a study of the functional characteristics of the Shuwaikh industrial area. The study relies on field data collected via a questionnaire, then statistically processed through the SPSS program. Subsequently, information files are analyzed in the ARC/View program pertinent to GIS, in which these statistical data are linked to the digital map of the study area. The base map has been digitized in Arc/View after overcoming the problem of geographical coordinates which the map had before being automated, depending on GPS. In GIS a spatial analysis is undertaken to determine the functional characteristics of the industrial and service establishments and their relation to spatial uses. A complementary study is provided of commercial and vocational dropouts in the industrial area. This is done through measurement of the impact of expatriate workers on the economic balance in the area, analyzing diverse aspects such as monthly income and technical level.
