A Framework for Practising Group Work with Cancer Patients

Group work is a main method of social work which has been proved to be effective in many social work fields. Its importance has increased nowdays as a result of the spread of chronic diseases such as cancer. This type of disease affects the whole life of the patient which means a need for a comprehensive care with the social aspect being an essential element of the care. Besides, group work plays a major role because: 1 - Group work is the appropriate of dealing with certain problems and issues, 2 - Shortage of human and financial resources facing hospitals nowdays necessitates a look for an efficient way to deliver social services to patients such as using group work with patients. This study attempts to provide a framework for professional practice of group work with cancer patients, it has utilized theoretical parameters in building this framework, however it has not limited itself to it. So the framework can be practical and realistic when applied social workers in hospitals which will benefit not only patients and their families but also hospitals themselves.
