Petrogenesis of the Hudi batholith and related metamorphic rocks in the district east of Aswan, Egypt

ABSTRACT

 

The plutonic and metamorphic rocks of the Hudi batholith appear to be genetically related on the basis of their major and trace element content. Both these rock types plot close together in Q-Or-Ab and Ab-An-Or normative diagrams. The plutonic rocks are of magmatic origin formed through partial melting of crustal material. The batholith is of multiphase mode of emplacement. The gneisses and migmatites were formed from Ba-rich psammopelitic sediments under amphibolite facies conditions. Textural evidence and consistently cotectic normative composition of the gneisses and migmatites indicate that their leucosomes originated as melts. After the crystallisation of the Hudi magma was complete, Ba-rich residual fluids moved along the plutonic-metamorphic contact in the shear zones to form barite lodes impregnated with galena.
