ABSTRACT
Fifty-five species of fungi belonging to 19 genera were isolated during this study, of which 24 have not been reported before from sewage and polluted waters. The highest total count was recorded in the highly polluted water of Shatt Al-Arab creeks. Penicillium, Aspergillus, Mucor, Fusarium, Trichosporon and Trichoderma were the commonest genera. Penicillium and Aspergillus possessed the widest range of species. Hyaline hyphomycetes showed higher count, percentage frequency and spectrum range of their genera and species than dernatiaceous hyphomycetes.
