ABSTRACT

Two types of hydroxyproline, free and combined, are present in Dictyosteliurn discoideurn. Free hydroxyproline is present in the vacuole and constitutes more than 95% of the total hydroxyproline. This is a characteristic of the vegetative cells since it has been released during the preaggregation period. Combined hydroxyproline constitutes less than 5% of the total hydroxyproline. This remains constant during the differentiation process and is the only form of hydroxyproline in the fruiting body.
