ABSTRACT
Reaction of levulinic acid and its ethyl ester with benzoyl-, α -naphthoyl-, phenylacetyl- and α -naphthylacetyl-hydrazines and ethyl hydrazinecarboxylate gave the corresponding hydrazones (III) which upon treatment with concentrated sulphuric acid afforded 6-keto-3-meth-yl- l, 4, 5, 6-tetrahydropyridazine (V) and the corresponding acid (VI). Heating of these hydrazones at 160-170ºC gave the corresponding diacyl- or diaroylhydrazines (IV). The structure of the products was established by chemical and spectroscopic evidence.
