ABSTRACT
The Wadi Mubarak-Gabal Atud metagabbro-diorite complex consists of an assortment of uralitized gabbros, uralitized quartz gabbros, metamorphosed gabbros and hybrid granodiorites and monzonites together with relic gabbros and quartzo-feldspathic veins. The original rocks of the complex have been mainly gabbros which were subjected to an intimate interaction with quartzo-feldspathic, granitic emanations as well as post-magmatic, deuteric alterations resulting from the intrusion of grey granite. The resultant hybridized and uralitized rocks were later affected by a low-grade regional metamorphism in the greenschist facies. This is new evidence for a phase of metamorphism which took place after the intrusion of the grey granite and which is considered to be the closing event of orogenic activity of the basement rocks in Egypt.
