ABSTRACT

This study examines the Rh (D) and ABO blood group distribution among 1278 young adult males from different locations in Saudi Arabia. All regions of Saudi Arabia show high incidence of the (0) blood group (between 38.2 % - 52.23 %) and a much lower incidence of the (AB) blood group (2.79% - 6.57 %). The study also found differences in types (A) (which increases gradually from east to west), and (B) blood group distributions (which is lowest in the south, 11.34% compared to the east, 26.79%).

The Rh positive factor for all the groups varies between 89.7% and 94.05% in the different locations. This study will be of interest to those who work in hospitals, blood group centers and anthropology.

Key words: ABO blood groups; Saudi Arabia
