ABSTRACT
This research project was initiated in response to the concern for the rising traffic congestion and the likely changes in household characteristics due to the invasion-displacement of a portion of the population of Kuwait. The post-invasion socio-economic traits and travel behaviour of households in Kuwait is reported. A systematic random sample of 1500 heterogeneous households were person-interviewed. In addition to presenting the socio T traits of the sample households, the result of the analysis of household travel behaviour in terms of vehicle—and person—trip rates, by purpose, by mode, by time-of-day, by number of persons per trip, and by trip duration is also reported. The result of a correlation analysis and chi-square tests demonstrated the significance of the causal relationships which the households’ socio-economic traits and their travel behavior. A comparative analysis was also made between the pre- and post-invasion socio-economic, modal distribution and travel behavior, for both the Kuwaiti and the non-Kuwaiti sample households.
