ABSTRACT
The structural behavior of concrete beams made with selected lightweight aggregates was studied. Selected lightweight aggregate samples were tested in previous research by the authors and proved viable as structural aggregates (Alduaij et al. 1999) to help in producing the current lightweight concrete beams. Three types of lightweight concrete were studied, i.e. lightweight expanded clay (LECA), lightweight crushed bricks, and no- fines concrete. Nine beams were produced (three from each type), and the behavior of each one was investigated through its deflection and strain response. Results for beams made of lightweight crushed bricks demonstrated the suitability of this concrete over other lightweight products; therefore, its use is recommended in the construction industry.
