ABSTRACT
Bevel gears with short back supports are considered to have much more strength than regular straight through teeth bevel gears. A strength design equation derived previously (Al-Shareedah 1985) has been shown to involve numerous gear parameters which make its use and application highly impractical. In this study, the strength design equation is presented in a different form including a nondimensional factor. Two means of calculating this factor are proposed: one is graphical and the other is a simple empirical formula.
