ABSTRACT
The Lagrangian undetermined multipliers technique when used in conjunction with the Rayleigh-Ritz method produces a simple and straightforward procedure called the undetermined multipliers method (UMM). This process proved to he highly useful in solving a certain class of problems. In furthering the understanding of the properties of this procedure, a multi-layered composite structure having different set of conditions is investigated, and results showed a high degree of agreement with the classical procedure and compared well with the finite element method. Parameters, such as stress, deflections and the type of assumed polynomial, are investigated among other factors, and all proved that the UMM is a reliable and useful tool for engineers and designers, particularly when interactive information are readily needed.
