ABSTRACT

Small granitic intrusions occur in the peridotites of Al-Fujayrah, United Arab Emirates. They have been classified petrographically into two types: granodiorite, and granite which includes granitic rocks intermediate between granodiorite-biotite-muscovite granite and biotite-muscovite granite. The chemical analyses of these granitic rocks indicate that they have the composition of continental calc-alkaline suites and that they are characterised by high K20 content. K/Ar dating indicates that they have an age of 92 f 4 million years. It is believed that these granitic intrusions have intruded the base of the Semail ophiolite before the ophiolite emplacement.
